CONGRATULATIONS TO OLD TOWN MANOR!

Chris Belland telling the crowd how we can all make a difference in going green.

Old Town Manor at 515 Eaton Street became the fourth guest house in Key West to obtain its Florida Green Lodging Certification. Laura Comer, Environmental Consultant for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) was on hand to present owners Runi Goyal and her husband Walter Price with their certificate.  In keeping with the green theme, the reception was catered by the Dockside Café, which provided the most delicious organic hors d’oeuvres, served on bananas leaves and palm fronds.  Organic beer and wine were served in biodegradable cups, so the entire event was compostable.

Runi proudly presenting her wonderful gift bags.

Key West Mayor Morgan McPherson congratulating Walter and Runi on their certification and the importance the green movement is to the city of Key West.

Mayor Morgan McPherson was on hand to speak to the city’s involvement and commitment in making Key West a model for green living for both residents and visitors.   Chris Belland from Love Your Island presented the staff of Old Town Manor with Love Your Island t-shirts and made all the guests take the Love Your Island Pledge and presented everyone with Love Your Island pins.

And if this wasn’t enough, Runi and Walter presented each guest with amazing gift bags, on par with those given to Academy Award presenters.  Everyone received a re-useable shopping bag that can be used for groceries, to cut back on plastic bag usage.  Inside the bag were organic coffee from Island Joes, aluminum water bottles that can be reused and recycled, Smart Energy light bulbs that last 60 years, delicious organic oatmeal raisin cookies from the Dockside Café, lunch for two at Dockside Café, and a two for one coupon from Sebago Watersports.

This event and the efforts made by Runi and Walter and the entire staff at Old Town Manor once again demonstrated that we all benefit by making an effort to go green.
