Tip #1:
Eggshells can prevent slugs and snails from eating your plants.
Tip #2:
AIR DRYING, IT IS NOT JUST FOR BROOKLYN ANYMORE!
Watch a film made in New York City and you'll always find in at least one
scene, clothes on a line strung along from tenement to tenement.  Was it
really just about the high cost of owning a dryer?
Fact: Your clothing will last longer if air-dried.  Using an electric dryer
actually shortens the life of your laundry, and sucks a lot of energy.  Hang
a rope and try a few items at first, like bath mats and bath carpets.
Besides the fact that this method is free, in our climate, it takes almost
no time to dry, and your guests won't notice the difference.   When you get
the hang of it, invest in a $5 wooden drying rack.  You, your clothes and
your check-book will all benefit.
Tip #3:

YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE!
We have all heard about the energy saving light bulbs (CFL), and how
we should use them. They save energy, cut down on long-term costs,
yadda yadda. But most of us still use the "old school" bulbs. Why?
Is it too inconvenient? Too expensive?
The fact is that if everyone in the USA utilized 1 CFL, the equivalent
greenhouse gas emission is taking 1 million cars off the road.
Period.
Now, doesn't it seem easier and cheaper to switch lightbulbs, than to
remove cars?

Tip #4:

MMMMM...Beer.
Want to get rid of fruit flies?  (1) Fill a jar 2/3 full with beer.(2) Cover the opening of the jar with plastic wrap (e.g., saran wrap or a piece of a plastic produce bag). (3) Push the plastic wrap down into the jar so that it dips approximately 2 inches below the top of the jar (make sure it is above the beer!). (4) Put a rubber band around the top of the jar to secure the plastic wrap. (5) Make a small hole (about the size of a pencil eraser) in the lowest point of the plastic wrap  - like you are making a funnel. (6) Place jar on kitchen counter or whatever room(s) you have the problem.  You'll notice a difference in less than 3 days, and it's a great conversation piece.

Tip #5:

Eggshells
Use eggshells on your top soil to keep snails away from your plants.  The snails don't like to crawl over the sharp edges of the shells.

Tip #6:

Protect Wildlife
Continue to cut those 6-pack rings, which can wrap around animals’ fins and limbs; but more importantly, dispose of garbage properly. Some animals mistake debris for food, which can cause choking or block their digestive systems.

Tip #7:

Lower your thermostat. Buy a programmable thermostat.

Tip #8:

Reuse your water bottle. Avoid buying bottled water. In fact, reuse everything at least once, especially plastics.

Tip #9:

Check out your bathroom. Use low-flow faucets, showerheads, and toilets.

Tip #10:

Start a compost in your back yard or on your rooftop.

Tip #11:
Buy compact fluorescent light bulbs. You'll find more on energy-efficient products and practices at Energy Star.
Tip #12:

Buy foods locally. Check out Eat Local Challenge and FoodRoutes to get started. Buy locally made products and locally produced services.
